My name’s Marina and I’m an associate agent at PS Literary Agency representing fiction and nonfiction. I’m also a past Big 5 Editor and I founded Marina Edits with a small team of passionate, professionally trained editors. I run annual nature-based writing retreats through Return to the Wild, and I also host several workshops a year to help writers master their craft.

STORY IN MY SOUL

Books and story have always been my passion. Ever since I first began to grasp the basics of spelling—very roughly, let’s be honest—I’d conjure stories onto paper like an incantation, weaving narratives that transported me to different realms. During my childhood, I’d often vividly reenacted my favourite stories with my stuffed animals, adding lots of drama and, frankly, more satisfying endings.

When I’m not immersing myself in books and words and magical worlds (or planning my next writing retreat), you can find me with a cup of tea in hand, trying a new yoga asana—never at the same time—or practicing Armenian, the language of my ancestors.

A CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL

I initially completed a BA in publishing (alongside a history degree, which turned out to be a fortunate accident) at York University before moving on to Toronto Metropolitan University’s Publishing Certificate. After spending half a decade as a bookseller, I began my publishing career at a small indie publisher in Montreal and moved to Harlequin as an acquiring editor just over a year later where I acquired for a total of four of their imprints. I’ve had the privilage to work with some incredible authors including Tarryn Fisher, Colleen Hoover, Jennifer L Armentrout, and Nora Roberts.

I have always had an eclectic taste in books and I’m always looking for diverse and inclusive stories rooted in the diasporic experience, cultural identity, and belonging. I love the atmospheric and speculative, strong voices, and stories with heart that have something big to say. I am always, always excited to receive books from underrepresented and marginalized voices. It’s my passion to champion writers and help them feel heard.
